Producer: The Estate founded in 1982 by Philippe Pain is now run by his daughters, Honorine & Clothilde Pain since 2018. They cultivate 50 hectares of vines in a traditional & environmentally friendly way. Their cellar is a former quarry used to extract the Tuffeau stone which was used to build the regional homes in the area.
Place: The estate is located at the foot of the hillsides of the Chinon AOC, Val de Loire; their vines are in the communes of Panzoult & Cravant les Coteaux.
Farming: In conversion to organic
Varietal: Syrah
Cuvee: This is one of their less traditional ‘Special Edition cuvees’ which is a reflection on the impact of global warming on the Loire grape varietals - Syrah, mainly found in the south of France has been planted in Cravant les Coteaux, along the right bank of the river ‘La Vienne’, and has adapted pretty well revealing a new personality.
Soil: Gravel, clay & sand
Tasting Notes: Juicy - Peppery Spice - Crunchy Dark Forest Berries
