Producer: Founded in 1830, Weingut Peter Lauer is run by 5th generation winemaker Florian, along with his sister Katharina. Florian Focuses on vinifying a single varietal, Riesling, as he believes ‘ Riesling is able to absorb the terroir and characteristics of each hill’  his presentation is dry to off dry Riesling, reflecting the place where the grapes are grown, using natural yeast fermentations. He has been a member of the VDP ( Association of German Pradikat Wine Estates) since 2012.

Place: The estate is located in the wine village of Ayl on the river Saar, the estate holdings include 11 hectares in the Ayler Kupp, Lambertskirtsch, Schonfels & Schoderer, in the Saar district of the Mosel wine region, Germany.

Cultivation: Practicing organic

Varietal: Riesling sourced from declassified parcels in the westernmost part of the Grand Cru Kupp.

Bottling: Each Cask corresponds to a distinctive style, the Senior # 6 is a village level wine, which Florian marks with a green circle on the label. It is named for Florian’s grandfather’s wine style of choice, TF for Trocken bis Feinherb, between dry & off dry with 11g/L of residual sugar. His grandfather would write ‘Senior’ on the cask he wanted for his own drinking, most often it was the barrel number 6.

Soil: Slate

Winemaking: Whole cluster, fermentation with indigenous yeast, matured in a mixture of stainless steel, fiberglass & traditional Fuder for 1-6 months on the lees, lightly filtered with diatomaceous earth before bottling.
