Producer: Maurizio Marchetti, 5th generation winemaker, a doctor of agronomy, continues the family tradition, running Azienda Agricola Marchetti. He has introduced modern technologies, still keeping with the traditional wine making style of the regionĀ – using long maceration & maturation time. He is the great-great grandson of an Italian spice trader, who helped establish the Marche Conero DOC.
Place: Maurizio lives in Ancona, making wine in the heart of the Rosso Conero DOCG, southern Marche, Central Italy. In this area red grapes are grown closer to the sea, while white grapes are a little further inland. He owns 8 hectares of Verdicchio, in Castelli di Jesi on the south side of the Esino river, & a single 16 hectare site of primarily Montepulciano in his hometown Ancona, by the Adriatic sea.Ā Ā

Bottling: Castelli di Jesi DOC,Ā established in 1968, 18 hilltop communities surrounding the town of Jesi make up the Verdicchio Classico region, the Classico Superiore DOC is a sub zone, much smaller area of hillside vineyard, with lower yields & greater ripeness.
Soil: Clay limestone & sand
Winemaking: Delayed harvest to soak up some extra sun, hand picked, aged in stainless steel for 5 monthsĀ on the lees & in bottle for another 4 months.
