Producer: Gina Giugni, grew up on a biodynamic family farm in northern CA. After obtaining a degree in wine & viticulture & working for biodynamic winemakers in France & the US, she established Lady of the Sunshine in 2017 with a focus on regenerative, biodynamic farming. Gina & her husband Mikey run Scar of the Sea & Lady of the Sunshine out of their winery in San Luis Obispo CA, working with other like minded growers in central coast California.
Place: The winery is located in San Luis Obispo, the Pinot comes from Chene vineyard in Edna Valley, Nero d’Avola from Preston Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley.
Cultivation: Lady of the Sunshine Chene Vineyard is certified Biodynamic, Preston Vineyard CCOF certified.
Varietal: A Sicilian inspired blend, Pinot Noir 40% & Nero d’Avola 60%
Soil: Gravelly soils in Dry Creek, Clay & volcanic rock over ancient ocean subsoil in Edna Valley
Winemaking: Nero d’Avola fermented 50% whole cluster, Pinot Noir fermented whole cluster, with native yeast, pressed together, aged in old french oak barrels for 7 months.
Tasting Notes: Red Apple Skins – Blood Orange – Graphite – Grippy Tannins
