Producer: Shaunt Ougoulian, a Berkeley trained chemist & Diego Roig, raised in a winemaking family in California, both Studied at UC Davis, graduating in 2022, before teaming up to make wine together. They started making wine in the basement of Shaunt’s parents house in Orinda, before their winery in Richmond. Together, they farm 8 ha of vineyards in Sonoma & Napa, producing 2 lines; Les Lunes Wine & Populis, keeping a portion of the grapes for their own production & selling the remainder in order to purchase grapes from areas further north. Les Lunes Wines are made from their own vineyards & top sites from growers from Mendocino county, a classic, refined & ageable side of natural wine.
Place: The old vine Zinfandel comes from Venturi Vineyard & Lolonis Vineyard in Mendocino county, north coast California.
Cultivation: Organic & regenerative practices
Varietal: Zinfandel
Soil: Gravelly loam & sandy loam soils
Winemaking: whole cluster, foot stomped, indigenous yeast fermentation, pressed after 30 days of maceration, aged in a mix of neutral french oak & Flextank for 10 months, rested in bottle for 8 months before release.
