Producer: Jean Marie Bechtold, 4th generation winemaker, took over the family estate in 1995, with 12 hectares of vineyards, including in the Grand Cru ‘Engelberg’. His style is balanced & elegant, making classic wines that represent their Terroir. He runs the domain in an environmentally & socially sustainable manner, minimizing intervention during vinification.
Place: The estate is located in the commune of Dahlenheim, along the slopes of the ‘Couronne d’Or’ (golden crown), not far from Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin of Alsace, eastern France.
Cultivation: Certified organic, converting to biodynamic viticulture
Varietal: Equal parts Chardonnay & Auxerrois with a little Pinot Noir.
Soil: Limestone, marl
Winemaking: Traditional method, fermentation in stain steel tank, resting on the lees for 2 years, no dosage.
