2022 Domaine Montanet Thoden, ‘Garance’ Bourgogne Rouge, Burgundy, France

Producer: The Domaine was founded in the spring of 2000 by Cathrine Montanet ( of Domaine de la Cadette) in partnership with an associate Tom Thoden(a Dutch Businessman), starting with 8 hectares from her family’s vineyards. Valentin Montanet, Catherine’s son, joined as winemaker in 2010, with a traditional & natural approach to winemaking.

Place: The domaine is situated in the village of Saint-Pere, Vezelay. The Vines are located in the Marvan Mountain Range, running west by northwest of the Cote d’Or, in Northern Burgundy.

Bottling: ‘Garance’ referring to the wine’s deep red color of the wine.

Cultivation: Certified organic

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Soil: Limestone, Blue/red clay & fossilized marine deposits

Winemaking: Hand harvest, natural fermentation with indigenous yeast – 2 batches blended for this cuvee/ 1 destemmed & the other whole cluster fermentation, aged in oak barrels of various sizes ( 80% barrique & 20% Feuillette).

Tasting Notes: Sapid Red Berries – Damp Earth – Peppery Spice – Supple Tannin
