Producer: A Historic winery founded in 1854 by a Venetian, Antonio Scarpa. Mario Pesce’s  family purchased Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa in 1949 converting the facility,  expanding the estate & putting it on the world map. Mario creates a true house style using cellar aging techniques & extended bottle aging before release. Today the Scarpa team, with 70 acres under vine & Carlo Castino as head winemaker, continue to produce wines from indigenous grapes to Piedmont with a respect for the traditions of the house.

Place: The winery is located in Nizza Monferrato in the province of Asti, northwest Italy, the site ‘Bric du Nota’ is a 2.5 hectare vineyard in Alba.

Farming: Organic -much land is dedicated to fields & forests which is left unplanted to maintain biodiversity.

Varietal: Nebbiolo

Soil: Sandy soils, rich in mineral salts.

Winemaking: Maceration for 21 days in wooden vats, ages for 12 months in French Allier oak cask, followed by 6 months of bottle aging before release.

Tasting Notes: Tangy fresh berries – fine tannin –  hints of Eucalyptus –  earthy mineral character
