Producer: The Gaja family arrived from Spain during the 17th century, Giovani Gaja founded the winery in 1859 in Barbaresco with just 2 ha of Vineyards. With each generation the estate expanded & the Gaja name was more prominent. When the great grandson of the founder, Angelo took over, reshaping the family estate in the 1970’s, Gaja’s wines rose to international acclaim. Gaja is credited for modernizing Piedmont & putting it on the world map, continuous innovation drew the world’s attention with the planting of international varieties, producing single-vineyard Barbaresco, experimenting with yields, vine density & French barriques. Angelo’s children, Gaia, Rossana & Giovani are now running the winery & continuing the legacy, using innovative techniques to preserve the land, implementing eco-friendly practices in the vineyard & cellar, committed to responsible & ethical winemaking.

Winemaking: made from a blend of grapes from 14 single vineyards in Barbaresco, the grapes from each vineyard are fermented separately, aged in barrique for a year, after blending they are aged in large oak barrels for another year, then rested for a year in bottle before release.
