Producer: Elizabetta’s father passed away when she was 18, her mother maintained the estate while she finished her studies in Oenology. She took over the vineyards that were originally purchased by her grandfather, when she was 20. Over time she found her voice, in pursuit of the true expression of the native grape that would soon give her the nickname ‘Queen of Teroldego’. She started experimenting with biodynamic farming, converting in 2002, she replanted the vineyards following the ‘Massal Selection’ reviving the Teroldego grape & started taking a more natural path with wine including the use of amphora. Today her 3 children, Emilio, Theo & Myrtha run the winery under her supervision.
Place: Based in the foothills of the Dolomites, Trentino, northern Italy, close to the Austrian border. The vineyards are surrounded by mountains.
Farming: Demeter certified
Varietal: Teroldego from 3 vineyards in the Campo Rotaliano, 70 year old vines. The Granato is her most age worthy wine.
Soil: The land is a valley that used to be a river bed with sandy, alluvial soil rich in minerals.
Winemaking: 40% whole cluster fermentation in large open vats, maceration for 30 days, aged for 15 months in large old acacia barrels.
